Religious symbols were commonly used in different branches of Vodun religion throughout the African Diaspora and including Haitian Voudou - a religion that developed between the 16th and 19th Centuries.
The Sesilya symbol expresses light : "I am the light within you, shining in your eyes, the one that shows you the way to sweetness and beauty" . It was created by Haitian interior designer Cecilia Russo using the traditional Haitian Voudou lines.
